Make Music Day: NAMM Foundation

From the heart of Times Square, four pianists – Lang Lang International Music Foundation Young Scholars Aliya Alsafa, Maxim Lando, and Harmony Zhu, joined by Blair McMillan – will perform Albert Lavignac's "Galop-marche" for eight hands on a single Steinway grand piano. The group will also join forces on four-hands pieces by Brahms, Debussy, and Ligeti. In addition, Harmony Zhu and Aliya Alsafa, both Steinway Artists, will perform solo pieces: Ms. Zhu will play Chopin's Sonata in B minor, and Ms. Alsafa will play Beethoven's Appassionata Sonata Mvt. 1, Chopin's Mazurka Op. 14 No. 4, and Prokofiev's Sonata No. 3. Special thanks to Steinway Piano and the Times Square Alliance.

Join World of Pianos on January 21, 2021 for a special virtual performance of Mozart's Rondo alla turca, presented by the Lang Lang Foundation and Steinway & Sons for NAMM's Believe In Music Week. The event will feature pianists Aliya Alsafa, Myron Brown, Maxim Lando, Blair McMillen, and Harmony Zhu, who are all current or former Lang Lang Foundation “Young Scholars.” Leading the performance will be YPC’s Founder/Artistic Director Francisco J. Núñez! Professionals, amateurs, and beginning players are all welcome.

This week in the Play It Forward Virtual Concert Series, we're featuring sixteen year-old Aliya Alsafa, an LLIMF Young Scholar Alumni and Steinway Young Artist. She currently attends the Juilliard Pre-College as a student of Hung-Kuan Chen and Tema Blackstone. She's participated in the Gilmore Rising Star Series, the Andermatt Swiss Alps Classics Festival, and the Leeds International Music Festival in the United Kingdom.

LLIMF Young Scholar Graduation Concert

The Young Scholars program is part of a music education initiative designed by the Lang Lang International Music Foundation® to support young pianists in their professional development. Aliya Alsafa, Carey Byron, Jeffrey Chin, Jasper Heymann, Avik Sarkar, Victor Shlyakhtenko, and Shuheng Zhang have all been personally selected by pianist Lang Lang. During their two years as LLIMF Young Scholars, they have performed on international stages and participated in festivals such as Oxford Philomusica Piano Festival, Leeds International Piano Festival, the Gilmore Keyboard Festival, and more.

Our Young Scholars Aliya Alsafa, Jasper Heymann, and Shuheng Zhang will be joining us this year to Leeds and London, UK. The two week festival allowed the Young Scholars to explore the city of Leeds and London in England while taking masterclasses, performing at concerts, and attending outreach events.
